sooooooo after a very long journey setting off at 7am to go over the border between Thailand and Cambodia we finally reached Siem Riep at about 6pm! ha!
After such a long journey we didnt really fancy looking around so just had some dinner and crashed out! On our first full day we went to a silk farm which was good and then to the floating village....we took a boat out and saw first hand how the cambodians have wooden shacks bulit on water, this is so in the wet season their homes dont get washed away they just rise with the river level. We were informed that around 1million people live on the mekong river WOW! its another world, what i cannot get over is how happy they are, always smiling its great. Watching the sunset on the river was lovely.
I am not too keen on the cambodian food but I am getting there.....Thai food is much better :-)
On our second full day we went to Angkor Wat temples, this was just out of this world, the amount of skill and time that went into these buildings was just crazy. We had to leave the hostel at 5am to be able to see the thw sunrise over the main temple, so were were not impressed but I must say it was def worth it! In the afternoon we visited the temple where Tomb raider was filmed, so being the geeks we are Me, Nat and our friend Paige ( an aussie who is on our tour) decided to jump out of the ruin windows and have our picturs taken pretending to be Ms Jolie! Wait for it.......clumsy me jumped too high and whacked my head sop hard it bled( only a bit) eeeeeeeek! what a wolly!
Fab night out that night for Paiges birthday, will spare the details but we went to a bar called Angkor What? a play on words, was like the brush so was like home from home!
Meeting loads of new people, its fab :-)
On Saturday in a very hungover state we made our way on a public bus to Tompang Cham, I felt like i was going to die but after some food we took a bike ride across the mekong river to Kombiand island and met some locals, an experience you cant explain. We went past a cambodian wedding party being held in a garden and was invited in to dance haha! An early night before setting off for our homestay in Chombok on Sunday, stopping off in Phnom Penh on route for food. Again the homestay bought a lot home for me. We stayed in a wooden shack built on stilts with no doors, it was do able for one night but by this morning i was gagging for a shower and the dust on me took aaaaaaages to wash off! InSihanoukville now for 3 days on the beach, a well deserved break :-) and then onto Phnom Penh, and so let the adventure continue....
I have just squeezed a whole week into a few paragraphs but I cant stress how much you cant explain in words some of the things we have seen. Signing out now for a cold beer as its so hot. Much Love xxx
